Daryl Janmaat (July 22, 1989) began his career at amateur football club TONEGIDO in Voorburg, the Netherlands. After several years, Daryl moved to Rotterdam to join the youth academy of Feyenoord Rotterdam. He returned to his hometown The Hague at the age of fourteen, to play for ADO Den Haag.

On October 5th, 2007, at the age of 17, Daryl made his official debut in the first team of ADO Den Haag. As a talented right back defender, he entered the pitch in the competition match against FC Zwolle. Daryl’s first match in the starting formation of ADO Den Haag followed a week later against TOP Oss. He immediately scored his first goal and began making a name for himself as an offensive right back.

Daryl signed for SC Heerenveen in June 2008, just after finishing his first year as a professional football player. After his debut match for SC Heerenveen against FC Volendam, injuries delayed his development in the first season at SC Heerenveen. Daryl won the first trophy, the Dutch cup (KNVB Beker), of his career on May 17, 2009.

The following three seasons, Daryl became one of the best Dutch defenders on the right full-back position at Heerenveen. As a result of that performance he draw the attention of Feyenoord Rotterdam, which he had already represented as a youth player. Daryl made his official debut at Feyenoord in the Champions League qualifying match against Dynamo Kiev on July 31th 2012. Hardly one month later, Daryl played his first cap for the Dutch national team (on September 7 against Turkey).

Daryl played an important role in the Dutch national team at the 2014 World Championship in Brazil. The Dutch team won the Bronze Medal, with Daryl setting-up a crucial goal in the group stage. After the WC, Daryl joined Newcastle United on a six-year deal. He made his debut on August 17 against Manchester City and his first goal on August 30 against Crystal Palace. In his first season, he directly got the prize of best player of the year, chosen by the Newcastle fans and club. In November 2015, Daryl was awarded with the North East player of the year award. He played 77 official matches for Newcastle United, in which he scored four goals and delivered many assists.

The full-back moved to Watford FC in the summer of 2016. Daryl made his official debut at Watford FC in the home game against Arsenal on August 27.
